Tasmanian Govt Railways WG
Class
The Tasmanian Government Railways appeared to have gone their own way with their section cars.
This is a "WG" class car. I am advised that they were all built at Launceston Workshops.
Note the ornate woodwork.
It's little wonder that Australian National threw them out not long after it took over. To maintain such a high quality of coachwork would have been very expensive.
This car has been privately preserved.
During a recent (2007) trip to Tasmania, I managed to get some more data on the drive.
This WG is still in service in Tasmania
Lindsay Bishop took this photo of a refurbished car at the Lowana Yard, West Coast Wilderness Railway, in September 2006. It is probably the only WG still in commercial service.
